I picked up passenger on Thanksgiving Eve. She said she was spending Thanksgiving with her fiance’s family.
She was worried about if their food would be seasoned enough. She explained that she was Latina and was used to having a little of her culture at the dinner table when it comes to the holidays.
“Is your fiance white?” I asked.
“Yes,” she answered.
“Well, you should be OK. I mean, Thanksgiving is a pretty white meal,” I joked. “What are you some other ‘white’ foods?”
“Meatloaf,” she responded.
“Yea, and roast,” I added. “I’m not a big fan of roast, but my mom loves it. I tell her she has a racist palate, because she doesn’t like very many ethnically diverse foods.”
What are some non-traditional foods at your holiday table? Are you Italian and have a lasagna at Christmas? Does your mom always make eggrolls at Easter? I’m curious what I’m missing out on!
