I’ve been thinking about writing something for a while. I’ve been on a hiatus since about the time of Hurricane Michael, or October 2018.
Being from Lynn Haven, Florida, it hurt to watch my hometown literally get torn apart by mother nature. I felt a mixture of guilt and relief that I no longer lived there.
For at least the first week after the hurricane, I couldn’t sleep. I kept checking my phone to see which of my friends, former coworkers and loved ones had finally been able to communicate with the outside world, letting us know they were safe.
While most people made it out of the storm alive, many did not. Most, have a hard road ahead, rebuilding their homes and lives.
It’s hard to imagine the town without trees. Five months later, Target is just now reopening, the mall will never reopen and people are still living in trailers in their driveways.
So, this is why for a long while I have refrained from posting about eating delicious food. I felt guilty sharing my dining adventures while so many I’ve been so close to had lost so much.
My hope for Bay County is that with this destruction will come a great renewal, and the town will be better than ever.
So with that, I hope to renew my blog and better my eating habits. Now, that doesn’t mean no more burgers forever, but I will be on the lookout for foods that are delicious and work for my body, not against it.
