Listen, I love food. I try not to discriminate, which is why when my vegan friend told me I had to try the best vegan burger in Austin I stopped by Arlo’s.
What I learned from Arlo’s is that vegans can have fun, too. Greasy, sloppy fun.
This burger is quite substantial, as are the tots. My friend and I each ordered the tots and could have easily split them. I didn’t make it through my entire burger, but it wasn’t from lack of trying.
I didn’t miss a thing on this burger. Like I said, greasy, sloppy. The soy-free, gluten-free patty has a bit of a crispiness on the outside that reminded me of a really good eggplant parmesan.
The burger is topped with all of burger’s best buds, mayo, ketchup, mustard, tomatoes, onions, pickles and lettuce. And, of course, house-made seitan bac’n and melted “cheeze.”
This was my first time (that I know of) trying seitan. It wasn’t too bad, but definitely not bacon.
Let’s get to the tots. These were perfection. Extraordinarily crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and piping hot. Sprinkled with a fine coating of salt, these tots are worth the trip, alone.
